Having a height of 850 m, this mountain is the second highest one in Langkawi and it features some amazing views of the island. The story talks about two giants known as Mat Raya and Mat Cincang; it was believed that they were really close friends when one day they started fighting during the wedding reception of one of their kids. They each grabbed things closest to them like pans and pots and started to throw them around. Hence, a plethora of famous spots were created throughout Langkawi. A gravy pot fell in the town of Kuah which led to its name, another hot water bowl fell in Air Hangat, and in Belanga Pecah there was a jar broken.

When Gunung Raya and Gunung Mat Cincang finally decided to call it a truce and realized the mistake they’ve made, they accepted to be turned into mountains. Gunung Mat Cincang’s most famous attractions are without a doubt the cable car. It features 35 gondolas and each gondola car carry up to 6 people. If you’re not afraid of heights and you want to see Langkawi’s most impressive landscapes, the cable car spans on 2 km and it features 3 stations. Station no.1 is at Oriental Village, whereas Station no. 2 and 3 are in Gunung Mat Cincang. The three stations will provide adventurers with some pretty spectacular views over Langkawi islands as well as the main land of Kedah.

If you’re feeling adventurous and you want to trek Gunung Mat Cincang, you might want to be prepared as the experience is not that simple as you might think. The famous trek also gives you the chance to see the popular Telega Tujuh (Seven Wells) Waterfall, which can also be admired from the cable car. All you have to do is head to the Pantai Kok area, from where you can choose either to climb the stairway that takes you through the rainforest or test your skills on the steep road. There’s nothing more engaging than a trip to the top of the Gunung Mat Cincang Mountain by cable car. With a capacity of 35 cabins, the views from the top are just breathtaking. Adults will have to pay RM 30 to enjoy the experience, while admission for kids is RM 20. Tourists who can’t find what to do in Langkawi should definitely climb the Gunung Mat Cincang Mountain. However, make sure that you hike between November and March, during the dry season. The rainy season should be avoided because the trail can get rather slippery and way more challenging.
